Losses in the millions and an uncertain future: The spread of the corona virus caught the Bundesliga. Borussia Mönchengladbach may have to sell one of the best players in the summer due to the loss of income.
Both Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich as well as numerous top clubs from abroad are considering Denis Zakaria to their team.
The midfielder is bound in Gladbach without an exit clause until 2022, but after the latest developments it is questionable whether the 22-year-old actually has a future at Borussia Park.
The problem: If the current Bundesliga season is canceled due to the Corona crisis, which currently does not seem to be ruled out, Gladbach faces a 35 million euro hole.
Ten million euros result from a lack of viewer revenue, 24.39 million euros according to “kicker” are the outstanding installments of the national and international marketing revenues.
Gladbach forced to sell Zakaria?
“Bild” speculates that those responsible for Borussia, its sports director Max Eberl could be forced to sell Zakaria in the coming transfer period.
The market value of the Swiss international is estimated to be around 45 million Euros.
In the winter training camp at Borussia in Jerez, Eberl was confident in the Zakaria case and declared that he had “everything in hand” and “could make a strategic decision”.
Zakaria switched from the Young Boys from Bern to the Lower Rhine in 2017 for twelve million Euros. So far, he has played 96 competitive games for Gladbach with eight goals and six assists.
