50 to 58 million people in Germany could fall ill due to Coronavirus

In Germany, according to the Robert Koch Institute , 60 to 70 percent of the population could become infected with the new corona virus within a period of one to two years.

With a population of around 83 million, this corresponds to around 50 to 58 million people

This estimate is based on model calculations, RKI President Lothar Wieler explained.

The pandemic will stop itself if more and more people become infected and build up immunity, said Wieler.

Of the more than 4,300 people registered with the RKI in Germany to date, many have not yet become ill or have recovered.

Nevertheless, this pandemic will keep Germany busy for a long time and we will continue to see an increase new  cases.
