Ex-Wirecard Board Member Jan Marsalek Hiding in Belarus?

Jan Marsalek1000x600

Entry registers indicate that the former board member of Wirecard may have fled to Belarurs as Jan Marsalek has been on the run since he got fired in June and is the key figure in the fraud scandal.

The ex-board member of the Munich financial service provider Wirecard, Jan Marsalek, could be in Belarus, according to a report.

Indication of a “single flight”
Accordingly, Marsalek entered Belarus on the night of June 18-19, shortly after midnight via the airport in the capital Minsk. “Spiegel” relied on joint research with the investigative platforms “Bellingcat” from Great Britain, and “The Insider” from Russia and the “McClatchy Report” from the USA.

How exactly the ex-manager might have come to Belarus is unclear. No flight number was noted in the Russian databases for his entry. There is only a reference to a “single flight”. Marsalek has not yet been re-entered in the databases and this suggests that the manager is still in Belarus or Russia.

In June it was initially speculated that Marsalek would be in the Philippines or China. Then it became known however, that Filipino immigration officials had falsified data in order to simulate the entry and onward travel of the former Wirecard board. Marsalek was responsible for day-to-day operations at the payment service provider. Because of the balance sheet scandal, he was fired on June 22.
