Seongnam Coronavirus outbreak with COVIC-19 Covid-19

Seongnam Travel Guide

Although the South Korean city of Seognam is deemed to be a city within its own right, realistically it is a satellite of the capital city of Seoul.

Along with the city of Changwon, it is one of Korea’s first planned cities being created during the time of President Park Chung-Lee with the sole purpose of industrializing Korea and investing heavily in the production of electronics, textiles, and petrochemicals

Seongnam, following after the city of Suwon, is recognized as being the 2nd largest city in the Gyeonggi Province of the country, and the tenth largest city in the whole of S.Korea. Seongnam is located to the Southwest of the capital Seoul and is administered by the Seoul National Capital Area.

As part of the development plan for Seongnam the government constructed a network of roads accessing Seoul and other major Korean cities and provided a package of financial inducements for large Corporations, both public and private to invest in the location.

This led to the development of the Bundang- distinct during the 1990’s which is now fully integrated into the Seongnam satellite region. The government stimulus package was successful and now the Seongnam/Bundang-gu complex is the home of such companies as Korea Telecoms (KT), the Korean Gas Company, and the Korean Land Corporation.

Such has been the success of the growth of Seongnam that in recent times it has been recognized as a Metropolitan City with the capability of self-governance, and during 2009 the decision was taken to merge Seongnam with the city of Hanam, also located in the Gyeonggi-do Province.

Getting around Seongnam

International travelers to Seongnam will use the main Seoul International Airport, or perhaps the Incheon InternationnAirport and use other modes of transport to Seongnam.

The Seoul central Subway line provides connections to Seongnam and Budang which provides convenient travel to the areas.

There are regular bus areas which operate from Seoul to Seongnam taking about 40 minutes for the journey at a fare of 1,700 Won. Though you can also catch a Limousine bus from either Seoul or the other major international airport at Incheon, but will pay a fare of about 12,000 Won for the journey.

Due to the population density of Seoul, and the satellite cities you may have difficulty in getting a taxi, though it is obviously easier of a nighttime when the commuters have all gone home, though some drivers will not enter certain areas unless you are willing to pay an exorbitant price, and will not operate the taxi meter.

Things to see in Seongnam

Just like any other Metropolitan location in the world there are a variety of Theaters, Museums, and Galleries to be explored. Your visitors information will give details, and there are many tours available around the locations.

The Central Park is worth a visit where you can see fine examples of older forms of Korean houses, indeed the last traditional house from the Seongnam and Bundang-gu villages can be seen in the Park dating back to the Joseon time. Central Park is not difficult to locate and can be found near the Seohyeon Station.

The small River Tancheon runs through the area where you can take a stroll or take a bicycle trip on either of the river banks. If you feel active there are a number of Basket ball Courts available where you can slam dunk a ball or two, or practice a few golf swings at the Golf Course located close by Sunae Station.

Yuldong Park is fairly close by where you can indulge in a little Bungee jumping, though the price is a little high at 25,000 Won.
